Geek+ Opens South Korea Office and Deploys More Mobile Robots With CJ Logistics

Geek+ said it has fully deployed robots in the distribution center of Naver Shopping, South Korea's top e-commerce platform.

Geekplus Technology Co. today said it has deployed 128 mobile robots to modernize operations at CJ Logistics' distribution center in Gunpo, South Korea. The companies said the site serves Naver Shopping, the No. 1 e-commerce platform in the country, which can now handle 30,000 orders per day.

Geek+ and CJ Logistics have collaborated before at the third-party logistics (3PL) provider's facility in Dongtan, South Korea.

“We are excited to use smart robots to improve our supply chain operations and increase our competitiveness,” said Kim Khunghoon, managing director of CJ Logistics. “We're pleased to extend our partnership with Geek+ to our Gunpo warehouse after seeing the efficiency and accuracy improvements that Geek+'s technology has delivered in our Dongtan distribution center.”

CJ Logistics grows robot fleet

Seoul, South Korea-based CJ Logistics said it transports raw materials and products throughout all industrial sectors. They range from automotive manufacturing, shipbuilding, and steel to consumer goods, food, and chemicals. The company also operates a “top-level automation center” and performs harbor loading and unloading.

The latest deployment includes 128 autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) operating 24/7 and covering 8,300 sq. m (89,340.4 sq. ft.) of allocated space within CJ Logistics' 10,000-sq.-m (107,639.1-sq.-ft.) warehouse.

By integrating Geek+’s robots and software into its warehouse management system (WMS), CJ Logistics said it has raised its operational efficiency by 33%.

Geek+ said it will continue to work with CJ Logistics to provide Korean businesses with the technology to improve their efficiency and reduce the costs of warehouse management in ever-changing business conditions.

Geek+ opens Korean office

Beijing-based Geek+ has added an office in Seoul to its existing facilities in China, the U.S., Germany, the U.K., Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Founded in 2015, the company has more than 1,500 employees and said it applies artificial intelligence and robotics to improve supply chain efficiency. Geek+ last year said it had sold more than 20,0000 robots worldwide.

“We are delighted that CJ Logistics have placed their faith in us to extend our already successful cooperation,” said Lit Fung, managing director for Asia-Pacific (APAC), the U.K., and the Americas at Geek+. “We can't wait to see our robots give them flexibility, adaptability, and precision in dealing with the vigorous market growth.”

“We believe there is a huge demand for AMR robots in South Korea, which is why we have set up a full team there to support the logistics upgrades facilitated by robotics and AI in the retail, e-commerce, and apparel sectors.”

Geek+ said its Seoul office is led by Stephen Kim and includes a full team of commercial, project, and service engineers. The company said the new office will strenghten its service capabilities in the APAC region.
