DHL Supply Chain still ranked high by Gartner in North American standings

This Magic Quadrant evaluates third-party logistics (3PL) providers in North America.

DHL Supply Chain, among the Americas’ leaders in contract logistics and part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, announced recently that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. as a Leader in its May 2017 Magic Quadrant for Third-Party Logistics, North America report.

This Magic Quadrant evaluates third-party logistics (3PL) providers in North America. DHL Supply Chain was one of 18 companies that met Gartner’s criteria based on completeness of vision and ability to execute. North American 3PL providers are then positioned in one of four quadrants within the market: Niche Players, Visionaries, Challengers or Leaders.

Joe Puleo, DHL Supply Chain Chief Customer Officer, told LM in an interview that the company has a culture and an industry reputation for being metric oriented.

“All metrics are important, so there isn't any one particular metric we are focused on improving,” he says. “Our culture of Continuous Improvement drives relentless focus on being better every day. This is evidenced by our long-standing customer relationships (10+ years on average) and our high contract renewal rates.”

As with all other 3PLs ranked by Gartner, there were also a few caveats. Among the “cautions,” given to logistics managers was this:

“DHL Supply Chain can be slow to implement customer requested changes, especially if these changes affect cost or pricing structures. Customers would like to see improvements in DHL's willingness to act first and address financials later.”

Still, the company also ranked among the top ten in Armstrong & Associate’s U.S. 3PLs research this year, too.

The contract logistics business of DHL Supply Chain in North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico) is headquartered in Westerville, Ohio. DHL Supply Chain generated more than $4.3 billion in revenue in 2015 and employs over 38,500 associates.

It runs the largest third-party warehousing network across North America with over 593 locations and more than 109 million square feet in the U.S. and Canada, and 80 facilities and 10 million square feet in Mexico.
