Apple may not attend CES in Las Vegas, but it has a tendency to try stealing some of the event’s thunder by putting out announcements. This year is no different.
The Cupertino, California, tech giant announced today that customers spent “nearly half a billion dollars” on iOS apps and in-app purchases during the first week of 2015, setting a new record for the company. Jan. 1 in particular marked the single biggest day ever for app sales.

Similarly, Apple says billings for its App Store jumped 50% year-over-year in 2014, suggesting App Store sales totaled at least $15 billion for the year, based on the more than $10 billion in sales it did in 2013.
Apple added that its developers have now generated $25 billion in revenue to date since the App Store launched in 2008. Of that, $10 billion came from 2014 alone.
In a separate post on its website this week, Apple claimed that it has “created or supported” more than one million jobs in the U.S., including 627,000 jobs that it says are directly from the iOS ecosystem. That’s double the number of jobs it claimed credit for in the U.S. in early 2012.
