Cummins Develops A “Road Map” for Success

Four years into its agreement, the collaborative partnership between Transplace and Cummins creates consistent cost savings as the companies partner to map out further strategic structural improvements.

Cummins, Inc. is a powerhouse company that designs, manufactures, distributes and services power engines, along with related technologies that include fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions, and electrical power generation systems.

As a worldwide power leader, Cummins also has significant global transportation needs, serving customers in approximately 190 countries through a network of more than 500 company-owned and independent distributors, and approximately 5,200 dealer locations.

While Cummins was operating in a solid upward growth pattern, Transplace found significant room for improvement, particularly with the coordination of inbound shipments from suppliers.

The existing TMS did not provide suitable visibility to drive critical decisions on the inbound side, so suppliers were not fully motivated to find better efficiencies. This resulted in little control and an inadequate view of Cummins’ network and data in a real-time environment.

It was vital the Transplace TMS be robust enough to provide needed visibility that would enable more effective, tactical decision-making throughout the company’s transportation network. Transplace had a plan and stood ready to establish a strong partnership
