A Complete Logistics Solution Produces Even Sweeter Savings for Sunny Delight
Outsourcing its logistics management to Transplace has increased visibility and yielded bottom-line benefits for the major-label juice brand.
The Sunny Delight Beverages Co. is a leading producer of juice-based drinks in North America and Western Europe.
With U.S. headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, and European headquarters in Barcelona, Spain, the company produces and markets such brands as SunnyD® Original, Fruit2O®, Veryfine® and Elations®.
“The scale, technology, and knowledge of the industry required to be successful was not something we wanted to take on,” says Jim Glendon, SunnyD’s supply chain director.
The decision was made to completely outsource its transportation management to a third party logistics (3PL) provider, which allowed company leadership to keep its focus on continuing the growth of its business and strengthening its core competency of producing juice-based drinks.
Looking to leverage a 3PL’s people, processes, and technology to effectively manage the transportation function, Sunny Delight issued an RFP in September and selected five potential 3PL companies. After narrowing the field to two finalists and conducting site visits, Transplace was selected as the 3PL partner.
