Yale Highlights Alternative Power Options and Autonomous Equipment

In addition to the debut of a robotic end-rider, Yale is showcasing a suite of alternative power solutions including lithium-ion battery technology, hydrogen fuel cells, compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Following Hyster-Yale Materials Handling’s acquisition of Nuvera in late 2014, the manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cell battery replacement units for electric lift trucks has leveraged Yale’s industry knowledge to enhance its solutions.

“We think the materials handling industry offers one of the best opportunities for return on investment for fuel cells, which will spur the growth of the technology,” said Jon Taylor, CEO of Nuvera at a Tuesday press conference.

At MODEX, Yale has debuted a robotic version of the company’s MPE080VG end rider, developed in a partnership with Balyo. Operating as a self-guided truck, the infrastructure-free navigation technology is ideal for a range of load transportation applications and is equipped with both manual and automatic modes.
