Think the word engineer and many of us, maybe too many of us, think pocket protectors and calculators. And, perhaps that’s the way managers look at engineers as well when they’re considering new leaders.

In his new book, Leadership for Engineers: How to Turn Perfectly Good STEM Professionals into Management, Mike Kotecki argues that many of the qualities that make for great engineers are also the qualities that make for great leaders. Kotecki understands the issue first hand, after having spent a number of years as a senior leader at one of the world’s largest materials handling automation company.

In this special episode of Talking Materials Handling, Kotecki discusses his career, his book and the lessons he learned along the way.
