The national average price per gallon for diesel gasoline headed up this week, according to data issued by the United States Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
Rising 1 cent, the national diesel average now stands at $3.080, ahead of last week’s $3.070 average. The national average has seen gains in five of the past six weeks, with last week’s average down 0.009 cents.
This average marked the sixth consecutive week that the diesel average topped the $3 per gallon mark.
Prior to that, the average had been below the $3 per gallon mark for five weeks, and before that stretch, the last time that the national average dipped below the $3 per gallon mark was the week of March 19, 2018, when it was at $2.972.
Compared to the same week a year ago, this week’s average is up 7 cents, which is below last week’s annual spread of 9.8 cents.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $60.09 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is ahead of last week’s $59.36.
