National diesel average drops for first time in five weeks, reports EIA
A four-week stretch of gains for the national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline came to a halt with a slight decline this week, according to data issued by the United States Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With a 0.009 cent decline, the national average price per gallon now stands at $3.070 slightly behind last week’s $3.079 average, which edged out the week ending March 4’s $3.076 per gallon by 0.003 cents.
Even with the slight decline, this average marked the fifth consecutive week that it topped the $3 per gallon mark. Prior to that, the average had been below the $3 per gallon mark for five weeks, and before that stretch, the last time that the national average dipped below the $3 per gallon mark was the week of March 19, 2018, when it was at $2.972.
On an annual basis, this week’s national average is up 9.8 cents.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $59.36 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is ahead of last week’s $57.28.
