EIA reports small gain in national diesel average
This week’s $2.966 national diesel average is up $0.001 compared to the $2.965 average for the weeks ending January 28 and January 21, respectively.
The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline eked out a miniscule gain to $2.966 per gallon this week, according to data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
This week’s $2.966 national diesel average is up $0.001 compared to the $2.965 average for the weeks ending January 28 and January 21, respectively. And it also marks the fourth consecutive week the average has fallen below the $3 per gallon mark since coming in at $2.972 per gallon the week of March 19, 2018.
Prior to the week of January 28, when the national diesel average hit $2.965 for the second week in a row, the national average had fallen a cumulative 42.9 cents over 14 consecutive weeks of declines. Prior to that stretch, the weekly average price was $3.394 for the week ending October 15, which marked the single highest weekly average going back to the week of December 15, 2014, when it was at $3.419 per gallon, according to EIA data, and the average for the week ending October 8 was $3.385.
On an annual basis, this week’s $2.966 average is down $0.12 cents.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $53.98 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is slightly up from $53.47 last week at this time.
