DMLogic honored in 2016 Supply Chain Innovation Awards

CSCMP recognizes DMLogic's supply chain serialization project for Johnson & Johnson.

DMLogic, a leader in warehouse management systems (WMS) software and implementation, along with its customer Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain, was named first runner up in the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) 2016 Supply Chain Innovation Award competition.

The case study entitled “Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain: Securing the Drug Supply Chain” was second only to Dell Corporation’s supply chain sustainability program.

As the pharmaceutical industry moves toward serialization in compliance with the federal Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA), DMLogic and JJSC developed a proven solution to bring their supply chain to compliancy offering a safer and more secure drug supply across the globe. JJSC used DMLogic’s software development platform, STEPLogic, to enhance their warehouse management system (WMS) and warehouse control systems (WCS) for their track and trace program. Further, they built a serial number repository in order to exchange serial information within their supply chain with STEPLogic as the integration layer for reporting product serial numbers for their distribution centers.

“Drug manufacturers around the globe are preparing for one of the most vital and comprehensive challenges ever faced by the industry,” said Matthew Deep, vice president of technology, DMLogic, said. “The goal is total security of the world’s drug supply; not just at the point of manufacturing but throughout the supply chain and the life cycle of these drugs. It’s a critical business need and extremely important for patient care.”

JJSC and DMLogic has built and implemented one of the first systems to comply with new federal and global regulations that will protect the JJSC drug supply, years ahead of the mandated schedule. In the future, every drug that passes through the entirety of the J&J supply chain will be serialized and tracked at each point along the way. Within the JJSC distribution centers, DMLogic’s creative and innovative approach relied on the agility of the adaptive software solution of STEPLogic making the design and development quicker to implement, much less expensive, and far less risky to the JJSC business than traditional alternatives.

“The DMLogic unique approach offered JJSC an alternative to expensive software development and customization,” said Thomas Lee, president, DMLogic. “Well in advance of the DSCSA federal deadline, we were able to build a custom solution for Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain’s serialization and track and trace project that began the process of securing the worldwide drug supply.”

The winning cases were selected from a field of six finalist teams recognized during the closing session of CSCMP’s conference in Orlando on September 28.

“The teams were selected from a field of 43 submitted case studies, and were invited to present their innovations during the conference,” said Judith M. Whipple, chair of the Supply Chain Innovation Award™ team for CSCMP’s Research Strategies Committee, and professor in the Department of Supply Chain Management at Michigan State University. “Committee members and SupplyChainBrain staff look forward to another exciting competition next year in Atlanta, which will mark the program’s 14th year.”

The Supply Chain Innovation Award™ competition, presented by CSCMP and SupplyChainBrain, was part of CSCMP’s annual conference, which was attended by nearly 3,000 supply chain and logistics management professionals from all over the world. The award recognizes innovations created by corporate supply chain teams that demonstrate quantifiable and sustainable cost savings, as well as revenue-generating or customer-satisfaction achievements.

CSCMP members and 2016 conference attendees will soon be able to access this year’s Supply Chain Innovation Award™ winning and finalist case studies and 2017 submission guidelines at cscmp.org under the Career & Awards menu by clicking on the Supply Chain Innovation Award link.
