The ATA’s advanced Seasonally Adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index, for September, came in at 118.8 (2015=100), for a 0.5% increase. And ATA’s not seasonally-adjusted (NSA) index, which represents the change in tonnage actually hauled by fleets before any seasonal adjustment and the metric ATA says fleets should benchmark their levels with, came in at 119 in September, a 3.8% decline compared to August.

The ATA’s advanced seasonally-adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index for May, at 114 (2015=100) fell 6.1% compared to April’s 121.8, which was up 7% over March. And compared to May 2018, SA tonnage eked out a 0.9% gain, which ATA said marks its smallest annual SA tonnage gain going back to April 2017.

The ATA’s advanced seasonally-adjusted (SA) For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index headed up 1.1% from March to April at 112.5 (2015=100), following a 1% (revised from an original estimate of 1.1%) decline in March, which came in at 110.1. Compared to April 2017, the SA index was up 9.5%. ATA said this increase represents the largest annual increase going back to October 2017. And on a year-to-date basis through April, the SA index is up 8% annually, topping 2017’s 3.8% annual increase.

Seasonally-adjusted (SA) for-hire truck tonnage in January was up 1.2 percent at 135.7 (2000=100) on the heels of a revised 0.1 percent increase in December. And on an annual basis SA tonnage was up 6.6 percent compared to January 2014, which the ATA said marks the single largest annual gain in more than a year.

The ATA’s not seasonally-adjusted (NSA) index, which represents the change in tonnage actually hauled by fleets before any seasonal adjustment, was 133.3 in July, which outpaced June’s 132.3 by 0.8 percent, and was up 2.8 percent annually.
