DSV said that the objective of these acquisitions are three-fold: to augment its position within the semiconductor industry; align with its new Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport operations; and support its growing cross-border services into Latin America. Omaha, Neb.-based Werner Enterprises, a global freight transportation and logistics services provider and the nation’s seventh-largest truckload carrier, said this week it has acquired Tampa, Fla.-based Reed Transport Services Inc. and RTS-TMS Inc., through the signing of a definitive agreement and closing on the acquisition of 100% of Reed’s stock.

Werner Enterprises, already the sixth-largest carrier in the TL market with $2.7 billion in revenue last year, expanded its terminal, fleet and driver footprint in mid-America by purchasing Milan, Ind.-based Baylor Trucking. Terms were not disclosed.

DB Schenker said it will acquire all outstanding shares of USA Truck common stock for $31.72 per share in cash, adding that the transaction values USA Truck at roughly $435 million, including assumed cash and debt.

The report said that DSV is looking to expand in North America, adding that CHR’s global forwarding business would provide DSV with what it called critical access to trans Pacific ocean trade lanes, with the global forwarding business potentially having a $9 billion price tag.

Earlier today, the boards of directors of Greenwich, Conn.-based global contract logistics services provider GXO Logistics Inc. and London-based Clipper Logistics plc, a provider of omni-channel retail logistics services, said that they have come to terms on a recommended cash and share acquisition, in which Clipper will be acquired by GXO.

Waterloo, Ontario-based Descartes, a provider of logistics based on-demand, software-as-a-service offerings, said this week it has acquired Nelson, New Zealand-based CORE Transport Technologies NZ Limited, an electronic transportation network that provides global air carriers and ground handlers with shipment scanning and tracking solutions.

The many moving parts that have been part of the interactions in recent months between Basel, Switzerland-based global 3PL and airfreight forwarder Panalpina by Hedehusene, Denmark-based global 3PL DSV, in regards to the latter’s pursuit of the former as an acquisition target, have taken yet another turn, with the companies announcing today that they are going to merge.
