For October, the most recent month for which data is available, the SCI reading came in at 4.3.

Falling 4.8 cents, the national diesel average came in at $3.828, for the week of January 8.

With a 3.8-cent decline, the national average came in $3.876 per gallon. This followed a 2.0-cent increase, to $3.914, for the week of December 25, snapping an eight-week stretch of declines. The national average has fallen in 11 of the last 14 weeks.

Just as shippers are getting a pleasant New Year’s present with lower fuel surcharges in the wake of plunging diesel fuel prices, here comes a warning to not get used to it.

The national average fell 9.3 cents, to $3.894 per gallon, following a 10.5-cent decline, to $3.987, for the week of December 11.

The national average fell 5.4 cents, to $4.092 per gallon, following a 6.3-cent decline, to $4.146 per gallon, for the week of November 27. Over the last six weeks, the national diesel average has fallen a cumulative 45.3 cents. 

For September, the most recent month for which data is available, the SCI reading came in at 0.35, marking an improvement over August’s -2.7 reading, which was its first negative reading since October 2022. This came on the heels of a 1.6 July reading, which was well below June’s 7.9.

The national average fell 6.3 cents, to $4.146 per gallon, following an 8.5-cent decline, to $4.209 per gallon, a 7.2-cent decline, to $4.294 per gallon, for the week of November 13.

The national average, for the week of November 20, fell 8.5 cents, to $4.209 per gallon.

The national average, for the week of November 13, fell 7.2 cents, to $4.294 per gallon, which was preceded by an 8.8-cent decline, to $4.366, for the week of November 6.

The national average, for the week of November 6, fell 8.8 cents, to $4.366, following a 9.1-cent decline, to $4.454, for the week of October 30.

For August, the most recent month for which data is available, the SCI reading, at -2.7, registered a negative reading for the first time since October 2022. This came on the heels of a 1.6 July reading, which was well below June’s 7.9.

The national average, for the week of October 30, fell 9.1 cents, to $4.454, nearly wiping out the 10.1-cent gain, to $4.545 per gallon, for the week of October 23.

To be clear, 1993 was a long time ago, and over that time many, many things have changed, but, as we all know the respective per-gallon tabs of 23.4 cents for diesel and 18.4 cents for gasoline is something that has not changed.
