At the forefront of scientific ballooning research, the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas called on Gwynn Logistics LLC (GWG) in Denton, Texas to coordinate the move of 30,000 pounds of scientific balloons to NASA’s Fort Sumner, New Mexico launch location. (October 19, 2017)
San Francisco-based BSR has announced that its Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG) has released its Global Maritime Trade Lane Emissions Factors report. This contains data provided by more than 3,200 ships from 22 of the world’s leading ocean container carriers representing 87 percent of the global ocean container shipping industry by volume.

New statistics out today show that containerized import volume at the Port of Oakland increased 12.6 percent last month. The port reported that it handled the equivalent of 79,135 20-foot import containers. A search of records indicates that it was the largest September import volume in the port’s history. Carloads fell 2.3%, or 24,106, annually to 1,044,563, and Intermodal volumes in September headed up 3.8%, or 39,482 units, to 1,080,444 containers and trailers.

For July, the most recent month for which data is available, the SCI reading was -0.1, which was in range and slightly below June’s -0.7 reading. The firm said these levels reflect “the dominance” of contract pricing, coupled with capacity continuing to significantly tighten and subsequently increasing spot market activity, especially in the form of increasing spot market rates.
