What to Consider When Considering Fuel Efficiency

With the cost of diesel fuel fluctuating and regulations changing, more and more businesses are looking for smart, sustainable ways to power their fleets.

While fuel is one of the largest fleet expenses, estimating fuel costs is always a challenge.

Diesel prices are trending upward and continually fluctuating.

To further complicate planning, the risk of supply interruptions and shortages is ever present – you can’t predict the impact of natural disasters or world turmoil.

Understanding Natural Gas
One popular solution? Natural gas, a stable, made in America, alternative fuel source. No matter what your sustainability strategy is, experience shows that natural gas costs much less than its equivalent in diesel fuel.

Two forms of natural gas are now used in commercial vehicles: compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG). According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, both CNG and LNG are “clean-burning, domestically produced, relatively low priced and widely available” fuels.

As an regional energy source, natural gas reduces dependence on foreign petroleum while also helping you:

  • Use one of the cleanest fuels on the market
  • Cut fuel costs dramatically
  • Reduce well-to-wheel CO2 emissions by up to 25 percent, according to the “Clean Alternative Fuels: Compressed Natural Gas” fact sheet from the Environmental ProtectionAgency (EPA)
