Using RedPrairie’s WMS Furniture Outlets USA Maintains Business with 50% of Labor Costs

Access to real-time data, improved decision making, control over activities including people, performance and inventory movement.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based Furniture Outlets wanted to streamline processes in its 550,000-square-foot warehouse and strengthen the back end of the business to increase throughput and decrease cost associated with the supply chain. So the company turned to RedPrairie for a warehouse management solution.

Prior to RedPrairie, Furniture Outlets was managing its warehouse with an RF tracking system, and they needed full warehouse management system capabilities to gain efficiencies and accuracy. The solution lacked directed putaway, so tasks were linear and productivity was affected.

As sales grew for the company, the stress load increased on the existing system, which showed management exactly what wasn’t working. Furniture Outlets decided it was time to upgrade to a more robust warehouse solution. The company wanted a feature-rich warehouse management solution that would provide precise control and visibility, including:

  • Directed picking and putaway work so employees could multitask
  • Inventory “lock out” functionality so “hold,” or non-saleable products aren’t accidentally given to a customer
  • Task interleaving for labor efficiency
  • Reallocation of inventory
  • Labor tracking for monitoring and best practices implementation
