The core difference between Internet of Things and previous computing revolutions is that in earlier transformations the human user has typically been the catalyst – we go to our PC to do some work; we go to the Web to research or to check email.
In the Internet of Things, the thing talks back.
Context always anchors considerations around security, and that goes double for IoT. The IoT use-cases that have appeared so far tend to be very domain-specific, a trend that looks set to continue. In this paper, we examine the top 10 security issues for IoT – along with suggested solutions – and then illuminate some of the issues in the context of two emerging domain-specific IoT scenarios: the Automotive industry and the Utility industry.
