When the United States Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) needed an experienced solution provider to move 100 World War II artifacts from a museum in New Jersey to Richmond, Virginia, they turned to Landstar.
To meet the Navy’s challenge, Landstar’s government services team and an independent Landstar agency found the solutions needed to move the oversized, high-value artifacts, risk- and damage-free to the U.S. Defense Supply Center in Richmond, Virginia.
After researching military archives for references on handling and shipping of the periscopes, missiles and other artifacts, Landstar worked closely with approved vendors to prepare the rare pieces for transport.
Landstar spent months researching and preplanning to move the artifacts. Everything from a WWII diesel submarine and a Japanese manned torpedo, known as a Kaiten, had to be transported, most requiring a custom solution.
