RRTS rolls out changes to LTL network

Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc., an asset-light transportation and logistics services provider, rolled out multiple changes to its less-than-truckload (LTL) freight network this week.

The Cudahy, Wis.-based company said it has refocused its LTL network standards as part of a move to further enhance service consistency, which it said will provide customers with better visibility to delivery dates and better work and collaborate with RRTS to better manage supply chain operations and economically manage transportation costs.

One of the new RRTS LTL offerings is an optimal premium service comprised of guaranteed delivery on a scheduled day in select major-metro markets. A company spokesperson said that this service is for select major metro lanes such as Chicago to Los Angeles or Dallas to Chicago.

And RRTS noted it recently moved into new facilities in Dallas and Houston that it said will expand capacity for its expanding customer base.

“Our newly constructed facilities in each market have roughly doubled our capacity, with Dallas having in excess of 100,000 square-feet of warehouse space and Houston roughly 50,000,” the spokesperson said. “In total RRTS provides service to well over 10,000 LTL customers every week and is currently the 14th largest LTL provider in the United States.”

RRTS said it is also now operating its own facility in Memphis in a move to add what it called “immediate and substantial” capacity, as well as improve service levels and over all efficiency through direct service to customers.

“Memphis is an integral part of the North-American supply chain and we felt it important to increase our capacity and presence in this growing market,” the RRTS spokesperson said. “We initially agreed upon the expansion into Memphis from a strategic standpoint roughly a year ago and began the planning process at that point.”

Prior to opening the new Service Center in Memphis, RRTS provided service to customers in the area through a local agent who was exclusive to RRTS. The spokesperson said RRTS has a solid existing customer base in the area that has been built over the last six years. With a direct presence now RRTS fully expects rapid and substantial growth in the area, which includes the creation of dozens of new jobs over the course of the next few months, she added.

“Our investments into new and expanded direct facilities will assist us in fueling growth. Dallas and Houston are important markets for us and we look forward to continuing to be the preferred economy provider for many leading companies in these areas,” said Grant Crawford President of Roadrunner LTL, in a statement. “In Memphis, we are equally excited about our new facility and entering this key market as a direct service provider within the North American supply chain.”
