Retail Executives Fear Impact of Tariffs, Protectionism as Election Nears

A wave of protectionism, anti-trade and anti-globalization sentiment continues to cross the globe, and as opposition to free trade grows, GT Nexus set out to determine the business impact on an industry that directly touches the wallets of consumers: retail.

The 2016 US Presidential election brings uncertainty and concern to both sides of the aisle.

But there is one issue where the two candidates have similar stances: trade.

The trade policies of both candidates are raising concerns for retail executives.

46% surveyed said they expect to be impacted by in-coming trade policies of either presidential candidate.

And 68% lack the supply chain flexibility needed to adapt to in-coming risk.

What is the expected business impact of tariffs and protectionism? How will retailers respond?

See the infographic below for the full election outlook from 250 US retail executives.

At GT Nexus, we built a company around a simple but very powerful idea: put a single cloud-based collaboration platform at the center of a huge but enormously inefficient industry - global trade and logistics - and give companies a rapid, low-cost way to enable hundreds of inter-company supply chain processes on a global scale, across entire trading communities, to drive new levels of operational efficiency and business agility. We provide the industry-wide collaboration platform that leaders from nearly every sector rely on to automate trade and logistics operations across their global partner networks. For these companies and their trading partners, GT Nexus is where global trade happens. Today, GT Nexus is the developer and operator of the largest cloud supply chain platform of its kind.
