CSXT Intermodal’s improved service offers a cost and transit-competitive alternative to over-the-road shipping, shippers moving palletized freight between Atlanta and New Jersey, now have an additional capacity solution.
Atlanta handles the fifth highest tonnage of total freight moved in the country, behind Houston, LA, Chicago and San Francisco.
This is partly due to its status as a major inland port, but also because of its large consumer population and the fact that it is the South’s primary distribution hub and home to 587 million square feet of warehouse distributions space.(1)
A lot of that freight is moving north into the New York/New Jersey area, with over 150,000 containers moving between the two cities each year.(2)
Atlanta struggles with intense highway congestion - the highest in the state, which is expected worsen as the Georgia economy continues to grow.
It is important for shippers to identify and secure alternate sources of capacity now in order to prevent disruption caused by forthcoming industry factors, such as the driver shortage and productivity-hampering trucking regulations.
