IMHRC meetings held to share materials handling research

Highlights form the 2018 IMHRC include a tour of the Port of Savannah, international research collaborations, and opportunities to connect research to industry thought leadership.

The 2018 International Material Handling Research Colloquium (IMHRC) was held July 24-26 in Savannah, GA.

Hosted by Georgia Southern University with Andres Carrano, Ph.D., the colloquium gathered 35 attendees from 10 countries to present diverse research related to material handling and logistics in poster sessions, panels, and keynotes. Highlights form the 2018 IMHRC include a tour of the Port of Savannah, international research collaborations, and opportunities to connect research to industry thought leadership.

CICMHE sponsors the biannual IMHRC to bring together academic and industrial participants to discuss the latest in material handling, facility layout and design, logistics and supply chain research. The Colloquium is held every two years in the summer of even-numbered years, alternating with the Material Handling Teachers Institute (MHTI) in odd-numbered years. The first IMHRC was held in 1990.

“These Career and Technical Education (CTE) events are an opportunity to include industry in a targeted way to deepen relationships, understand more about what each other does, how it connects to industry challenges and solutions,” says Doug Reed, EVP of Strategic Development for MHI.

The next IMHRC date and place will be announced, but the upcoming MHTI meetings will be in San Marcos, hosted by Texas State University and Jesus Jimenez, Ph.D.

CICMHE is an independent organization supported by MHI that prepares and provides information, teaching materials and various events in support of material handling education and research. Founded in 1952, the main body of the Council is composed of fifteen college and university educators. Additional members are drawn from material handling equipment manufacturers, distributors, users and consultants, representatives of the business press, and professional staff members of organizations concerned with material handling education. Through its various programs and diverse representation of membership, CICMHE facilitates the interchange of information among concerned individuals in industry, academia and in the user community to aid in improving and implementing material handling education.
