Global Sourcing Optimization: Factories Are Taking it to The Cloud

From personal information to data produced by million dollar corporations, it is no surprise that more and more information can be found on the cloud.

This reliance is vital when it comes to global sourcing optimization through cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP).

According to a December 2014 article from The Strategic Sourceror, “Manufacturers, ERP and the cloud”, there has been a rise in the integration of factories and internet-connected devices. Because of the cloud-based software, what used to be a three step process is now simplified.

The large amount of data that manufacturing facilities handle is now processed through a single global sourcing optimization solution. The solution is set up to collect information, analyze that information, and present it in an understandable manner to factory personnel. Cloud-based solutions are able to handle this process, unlike on-premise ERPs, because the software is able to accommodate incoming data and increase or decrease storage accordingly.

Corey Rhodes, Vice President of the Americas at Amber Road, comments on the positive impact cloud enterprise solutions have had on facilities and their ability to identify new areas for profit. “Companies miss a lot of opportunities to innovate because they lack the agility to respond and execute when an opportunity presents itself. Sometimes they don’t see an opportunity that is right there in front of them.”
