Diesel prices head up for second straight week, reports EIA
The national average price per gallon of diesel gasoline rose for the second straight week, according to data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).
With an increase of 0.9 cents, the national average now stands at $2.481 per gallon. This second weekly increase follows three consecutive weeks of declines of 3.5 cents, 4 cents, and 0.7 cents, respectively.
These declines stretched back to the week of May 29, which was up 3.2 cents, and was preceded by five straight weeks of declines of 0.5 cents, 2.1 cents, 1.8 cents, 1.2 cents, and 0.2 cents over the previous five weeks for a cumulative 5.8 cent decline going back to the week of April 17.
Compared to the same week a year ago, the national average is up 6.7 cents.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil is currently trading at $44.37 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
