Gov. Steve Beshear joined DHL and local officials to unveil the company’s newly expanded and upgraded global hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on Thursday.
“DHL Express is a valuable resource in the Commonwealth, not only for our strong logistics network, but in particular for the Northern Kentucky community, which has benefited from the company’s continued investment and development,” said Gov. Beshear.
The expansion includes:
Hundreds of new workers were hired for the new facility. Staffing has grown from about 1,600 in 2009 to more than 2,000.
“The completion of the CVG (Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport) hub is a further milestone in the continuous expansion of our international express network,” said Frank Appel, CEO Deutsche Post DHL. “We are growing, building for the future and providing U.S. companies with the logistics support they need to succeed globally.”
The logistics company said enhancements include an expanded south ramp for additional wide-body aircraft, a new 180,000-square-foot sorting facility designed to accommodate larger express shipments as well and a facility wide information technology upgrade.
“Our investments in the DHL CVG hub enable us to respond more quickly and effectively to the growing international activity we see, especially among small and mid size businesses,” Stephen Fenwick, CEO of DHL Express Americas said in a statement.
The hub will connect customers to 220 countries as well as DHL global hubs in Hong Kong and Germany, according to DHL.
