CEMA reports 25% more booked orders in December

The December 2010 index represents an increase of 51% from December 2009.


The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its December 2010 Booked Orders Index was 159. Index in December is up 32 points or 25% from November 2010’s Index of 127 (1990=100). The December 2010 Index represents an increase of 51% from the December 2009 Index of 105.

CEMA’s baseline calculation uses the year 1990 as a comparison. Numbers to the right of the equation show the current state of the conveyor industry as compared to 1990. Figures above 100 indicate growth; while anything less indicates a contraction in the industry.

December Booked Orders Indexes were 211 for Bulk Handling Equipment and 145 for Unit Handling Equipment* (1990=100). Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly and are averaged back to the two preceding months, the booked and billed indexes for non-quarter ending months for Bulk Handling Equipment and Category X, total of all categories, are adjusted quarterly.

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 133 in December. Index in December represents an increase of 4% from November 2010’s Twelve-Month Index of 128.

The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 137 in December. Index in December represents an increase of 6% from November 2010’s Index of 129. The December 2010 Index represents an increase of 30% from the December 2009 Index of 105.

December Billed Sales Indexes were 224 for Bulk Handling Equipment and 120 for Unit Handling Equipment (1990=100).

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 129 in December. Index in December represents an increase of 2% from November 2010’s Twelve-Month Index of 126.
