Carmichael International opens up Detroit office

Earlier this week, Carmichael International Service (CIS), the customs brokerage subsidiary of APL Logistics, said it has opened up a new full-service office in Detroit Michigan.

CIS said this is the company’s thirteenth U.S.-based location, adding that it will provide the company with a physical presence on the Northern U.S. border.

“Our direct presence in Detroit will be able to better serve and build closer relationships with customers,” a company spokesperson told LM. “The office provides Carmichael and its customers with an office on the border that will have expertise on the Canada/USA trade.  We will also work multiple shifts to accommodate crossings at various hours – including weekends.  The office is also in Detroit which has a lot of automotive business, which is a key strategic vertical.”

Prior to this office opening up, the spokesperson said that clearances were managed through remote location filing, noting that the new office will increase its efficiency and responsiveness to customers.

In terms of what the new Detroit office offers up from a CIS perspective, the spokesperson explained that Carmichael is able to provide a complete North America service offering and house all USA entry data in one IT solution with a menu of reports and electronic record retention. In addition, Detroit is now part of the company’s expanded network covering the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“We are very excited about the opening of our Detroit office,” said Todd Boice, President of Carmichael International Service, in a statement. “This move realizes our vision of offering our customers who conduct business between the U.S. and Canada, a comprehensive brokerage solution in North America.”
