Premiering at ProMat, DAP Technologies (Booth 3959) unveiled its first Android computers. The M9705 tablet and the M4305 handheld device were both engineered to withstand abuse, said Dawn Janssen, marketing communications manager.

“More users are used to navigating the Android platform, and are comfortable with tablets and handhelds,” she said, explaining the new models’ operating system offering.

The tablet’s large 9.7-inch multi-touch, pan-and-zoom screen and less-than-2-pound weight is ideal for enterprise users who need a rugged device, Janssen added:  “It’s protected against water, dust and 4-foot drops to concrete, plus communicates with WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and an optional 3G or 4G/LTE module.”

The tablet is also equipped with an autofocus 5-megapixel camera with flash, and can have an antimicrobial finish added optionally.

The M4305 handheld is also sealed against dust and water—and meets MIL-STD-810G standards for shock, vibration and 4-foot drops to concrete. The compact device measures 5.2 x 3.2 inches and weighs 8 ounces. Operating on Android 2.3, it’s 4.3-inch multi-touch display supports easy panning, zooming and scrolling.

“The handheld has an integrated 1D/2D bar code scanner and two cameras—2.0 megapixels on the front, and 5.0 megapixels with flash on the rear—for multiple ways to capture data,” concluded Janssen.

ProMat 2013 is scheduled to be held January 21-24, 2013 in Chicago’s McCormick Place South. The tradeshow will showcase the latest manufacturing, distribution and supply chain solutions in the material handling and logistics industry. Modern’s complete ProMat 2013 coverage.
